A new Head of the Preparatory School at Loughborough Amherst School has been announced. Elizabeth Winton is “intent on leading a number of changes as part of a major refurbishment and a move towards full coeducational status”.

Ms Winton joins Loughborough Amherst following more than 12 years of experience working in state schools. She will work alongside the school’s Headmaster, Julian Murphy, “to uphold the delivery of education excellence for Key Stage One and Two pupils while significant changes are made to the curriculum, structure and overall look of the school”.

Amherst joined Loughborough Schools Foundation in September 2015 and is undergoing a school-wide refurbishment. It will also move to full coeducation status in September 2019, allowing both girls and boys to carry on their studies at the school from reception through to A levels.

Steps are already in place to review our current curriculum, so that we can ensure that we are providing deep and rich learning experiences. Elizabeth Winton

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Winton said: “In the years to come, I plan on building strong links with other schools, and working incredibly closely with pupils’ parents and families, too.“My experience has been in state schools, so the transition to the independent sector has been interesting, and I am keen to embrace this new challenge and all it offers – especially the flexibility in the curriculum. Steps are already in place to review our current curriculum, so that we can ensure that we are providing deep and rich learning experiences, as well as nurturing the confidence and building the resilience of all pupils, with a particular focus on mental health and wellbeing.”
