A former British cycling champion has been confirmed for the most prominent dates on the Rydal Penrhos calendar.

Denise Hampson, who attended Penrhos College, will be the special guest speaker at the school’s annual Speech Day, which will take place on Saturday, May 26.

After quitting the track to pursue a career in business, Mrs Hampson become a behavioural economist and worked on the British Aerospace Eurofighter Typhoon project.

She became self-employed in 2006 and started with web design work, which helped generate income while she pushed forward with longer term plans in health improvement and behaviour change.

Now considered an expert in the subject, Mrs Hampson moved on to delivering training, designs programmes and resources and speaks at national conferences on the subject.

She even presented at the House of Lords on the subject of behaviour change within the NHS.

Denise is currently residing and working in Vancouver, Canada working on “stretchy pants”, which she will reveal more about during her Speech Day address.

Simon Smith, Headmaster, said: “We are delighted that Denise will be joining us for our Speech Day, and she embodies all the elements of the education we provide here; the learning, the leading, the living and the listening. Without giving too much away, Denise will be speaking about how we are all designers, and that each pupil here at Rydal Penrhos is developing skills for designing a great life.”

Simon has filmed a special Speech Day invitation video, which has been emailed to staff, parents and governors at the school.
