Tanveer Sangra has been presented with a British Nutrition Foundation Education Award by the Princess Royal, for outstanding achievements in food and nutrition studies in her Home Economics, Food and Nutrition A-level.

She achieved an A in Chemistry and A*s in Biology, Home Economics, Food and Nutrition at A-level in Derby High School’s Sixth Form. She went on to Leeds University to study Medicine.

This is the second honour that she has won from the BNF after receiving an award for scoring the highest marks in the country for her GCSE Home Economics Food and Nutrition coursework in 2015.

Her teacher and Head of Home Economics at Derby High School, Catryn McDonald, who also won £200 for the school’s Food and Nutrition Department, said: “The BNF was amazed that Tanveer had actually won it twice - first for GCSE and then again for A level. OCR, the awarding body for A levels, said that she had achieved the highest overall score for AS and A2 that they had ever had. I am so proud of her as she has a genuine interest in nutrition and excelled because she was able to make connections between nutrition and her other A level science subjects, Chemistry and Biology.

Although she has gone on to do Medicine at Leeds University, she was also offered an unconditional offer to do Food Science at Nottingham. She still hasn't ruled out nutrition and dietetics and may well specialise in this within her medical studies at a later date.”

The awards were presented by the BNF’s patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, at the annual BNF Education Award ceremony in London.

The BNF established the Education Awards scheme in 1990 to promote interest in, and raise awareness of, good practice in food and nutrition.
