GRAHAM has secured a £113m contract to deliver a 1400-bed student accommodation project for the University of York as part of its ‘Campus Masterplan’.

During a period of impressive growth for the University, GRAHAM has been selected as the main contractor to complete the first phase of the residential expansion of the Heslington East Campus, which will see the development of high-specification student living and communal space. Phase two will create additional units, housing 800 beds.

The initial development is scheduled to commence in January 2019, with completion expected to take two years.

The scheme will act as a stimulus for the University of York’s student recruitment strategy while meeting the accommodation demands of an expanding global student body.

Michael Graham, Group Executive Chairman, said: “We are committed to providing outstanding student accommodation and the 1400 units delivered across the first phase of this project will bring our total output in the sector to more than 10,000 in the past five years.

Connecting with the city’s unique heritage was a key priority throughout the design process, which was developed by GRAHAM in partnership with architects Sheppard Robson.

The project will utilise an offsite manufacturing facility located in the North of England, which will support the local economy in line with GRAHAM’s commitment to high-quality sustainable development.
